I read an interesting article on which is the better massage technique for athletes. You need special training for both Thai Yoga Massage and Sports Massage, and each has their own special benefits! I believe that Thai Yoga massage in my opinion has been an amazing experience for me. I have worked on many CrossFit® athletes using the Thai Yoga massage techniques, and I have seen incredible results.
For example, in athletes, the hamstrings are one of the tightest muscles in the body. You can stretch them every day and still not be able to touch your toes. Using Thai Yoga massage techniques such as "Danka"— a combination of compression with passive stretching on the hamstrings — the muscles will release, relax and lengthen which allows for greater range of motion and flexibility. Imagine how much better your thruster or squat cleans could be if you could get back on your heels with greater ease and quickness? I find better results and longer lasting benefits from Thai massage techniques than sports massage alone.
